How to Gain Weight - 4 Easy Steps to Reach Your Goal

So you have decided that you want to gain some weight. Sounds like a simple thing, right? If done right, the desirable weight could be reached, and you can be the person that you have always wanted to be. Let's get started! Here are some basic things you can do to help reach your goal, and quickly.

1. Focus on what you eat - What to stay away from - As basic as that sounds, it is one of the main factors in gaining weight. One might think that they should just head to the closest fast food restaurant, order a few meals and have one too many burgers, fries and shakes. Maybe you should buy a few bags of chips, tons of pizza and plop down on the couch? You would be surprised to learn that such kind of food, (ie. Junk food) will end up harming your health, instead of helping you gain a healthy weight. These kinds of foods are packed with various amounts of sodium and cholesterol, which end up contributing to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. This is why it is so important to gain weight the proper way, in order to maintain your health while packing on the right amount of pounds.

2. Focus on what you eat - What to eat more of - So, if I can't stock up on junk food and slow down on exercise, how do I gain weight, you may ask. The key is to focus on the kind of food you eat. This means that focusing on consuming food with lots of protein. This is a very important factor when it comes to gaining weight, as protein helps add those additional pounds, and fast. With that being said, while focusing on eating more protein, one should not focus as much on eating the simple carbohydrates. Protein based foods include foods such as chicken or other kinds of meat. Also, Santa had it right - drink lots of milk, as it also contributes to your protein intake. Try to eat more frequently but in smaller quantities, as this will assist you with your quest. Various kinds of breads can help you out, and try to put a variety in your diet by eating cream cheese, hummus, jam or switching the kind of bread you eat (ie. Whole grain, rye, oat bran, etc.) Also, various types of vegetables will help you balance your diet and keep your body healthy, while you increase you protein intake to sufficient amounts, based on your personal metabolic rate. Remember, every person is different, and some lose/gain weight faster than others, so do not get discouraged early in the game. Stay determined and you will start to see results, while still keeping yourself healthy. Not everything can happen over night, despite what our fast-paced society may call for. Patience is key.

3. Get that body moving - Working out the right way with a focus on gaining weight - Again, another surprising fact. In order to gain weight, you still have to do some exercise, but with a different focus then you would have if you were exercising for weight loss. This will help you stay away from obesity while you suddenly start consuming more. Take my word on this. It is a factor that many people yearning to gain weight neglect, because it simply sounds counter-intuitive. However, the focus here is to gain some muscle in the right places, to help pack on more (men may prefer this more than women). If you belong to a gym and have access to a personal trainer, ask them about the techniques you should be trying in order to pack on the right muscles in the right areas to aid in your gain. At first, this may result in just a few pounds a week. However, this step by step approach is designed with your health in mind. If you deviate from the norm, you may end up dragging yourself and your body through a yo-yo diet, where you are continuously gaining and losing pounds. If it is done in a gradual manner, this drawback can be avoided.

4. Research! Since you are reading this article, you are already on the right path. Research, research, research! There are so many options out there for you. Read up on all of them and then decide what suits your lifestyle the best. Some people suggest consuming more nuts. However, some people have allergies, so stay away from such suggestions. Calculate your resting metabolic rate (ie. RMR) in order to see how many calories your body needs in an average day, and base your food consumption from there. Always read the labels of the foods you eat to get an idea what is in them.

Wish you the best of luck in your quest to become the person you have always wanted to be!
